"I Am" Club

“I Am” service organization is dedicated to providing students with skills and opportunities that they need to give back to the community now and in the future. The Upperman chapter recently had their awards breakfast for the student who had earned the most service point. UHS sponsors Becky Maynard, Melissa Apicelli, and Dr. Lisa Brown presented the awards.

Kayla Bain won 2nd Place in the essay contest and received a Kindle Fire. Cody Burton won a $100 Wal Mart gift card for 1st place, Kasey Manis won $75 Wal Mart gift card for 2nd place, and Jalesa Ford won $50 Wal Mart gift card for 3rd place in the most number of community service hours. Cody Burton also won 1st place and was awarded an iPad3 at the county-wide awards banquet.

Beta Club’s sponsor is John Apple. The Club officers are as follows: President -Max Key, Vice President- Bronson York; Secretary -Joe Jones, and Treasurer- Kalee Scott. The Club Activities include: Annual State Beta Convention, the club’s Christmas party, tutoring, and helping various charities like the Pre-K Christmas, Operation Christmas Child, Cystic Fibrosis, and Etc.

The advisor of the Chemistry Club is Darrell White. President: Colin Long, Vice President: Jade Oderrman, Secretary: Julia Qualls, and Treasurer: Alex Dale.
The purpose for the Chemistry Club is to invite, motivate, and encourage high school students who are fascinated by the many ways that chemistry connects to their world. Supported by the American Chemical Society, Chem Club provides fun, authentic, and hands-on opportunities for members to experience chemistry beyond what is taught in the classroom, learn about study and career opportunities in the many and varied fields of chemistry, and provide service for the betterment of there communities. The Chemistry Club also has fun activities they all enjoy such as; t-shirt design, after school experiments, possible field trip to Tech for Stem Cell research, and possible elementary and middle school visits.

Environmental Club

The president of the Environmental Committee is Bailey Battilla, vice president and the treasurer Taylor Maynard. Their purpose is to protect and preserve the environment through responsible waste disposal (i.e. recycling). Their club activities are collecting plastic bottles, drink cans, and paper for recycling. Mrs. Robin Scott is the advisor for the Upperman Environmental Club.

The sponsor of FCCLA is Bridgett Looney. The president is Tiffany Hyde, and the vice president is Taylor Shelton. The treasurer is Taylor Neighbors. The purpose of FCCLA is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Some of the club activities for FCCLA include: Club Fair, Christmas Parade, Operation Christmas Child, Heart Day, March of Dimes.
The history of FCCLA: In 1917, President Woodrow Wilson signed the first national vocational education act into law. This act created federally supported, state-ran programs of vocational home economics. The establishment of vocational home economics laid the foundation for the development of Future Homemakers of America as an integral part of the program.

Future Farmer of America (FFA) is a youth organization designed to develop leadership and agriscience skills. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The club sponsor is Steve York. The club officers are Mitch Baker as President, Bronson York as Vice President, Jon Steele as Historian, Ross Kinnaird as Treasurer, Ryan Mack as Secretary, Kendall Pippin as Centinal, Teola Robichand as Reporter, and Adam Gothard as the Parliamentarian.

Health Occupation Students of America is a nationally sponsored organization that is advised by Ms. Dana Harrison. The officers of HOSA are as follows: President – Justin Bowman; Vice-President – Nicole Massa, and Secretary – Brenda Finley.
HOSA’s purpose in Upperman High is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill, and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community. The members of HOSA are involved in many activities. From regional competitions related to the medical field and knowledge, to spending the day with the Memphis Grizzlies NBA basketball team’s trainers, they are developing a much broader knowledge of the world around them and the medical field.

Key Club - SITE

The sponsor of Key Club is Mrs. Julie Mayfield. The President is Serena Ingram, the Vice President is Alisia Parker. The Secretary is Jenna Ellis. The purpose is to support the community through service projects and by funding local organization. Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character, and develop leadership. Some of the club activities include Hot Chocolate Stand, UNICEF, Sucker and Candy Sales, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and District Convention in March. In May 1925 in Sacramento, California that the eleven charter members comprising the first Key Club met officially for the first time. Some famous members of Key Club are Tom Cruise, Elvis Presley, William “Bill” Clinton, Brad Pitt, Alan Jackson, Steve Young, and many more.

The sponsor of the Latin club is Mrs. Tammy Schmid. The President is Erica Mohan, and the Vice President is Mason Brown. The Secretary is Shannon Daniels. Some of their club activities include a Bake Sale, the Community Service Activity, and the Valentines Day Treat. Make sure to learn some Latin.

Mu Alpha Theta - SITE

Mu Alpha Theta is a United States mathematics honor society for high schools and two-year colleges. Mu Alpa Theta club sponsor is Tracy Jones. The club officers are President Will Qualls, Vice-President Brent Whitehead, Secretary Cody Burton, and Treasurer Nate Riggsbee. Mu Alpha Theta will be participating in the annual state convention to be held at CHS. They will also be participating in the Annual TMTA mathematics contest at TTU in April.

Pep Club

The advisors of the Pep Club are Sam Brooks and Stephanie Davis. The officers are President Donna Leftwich, Vice President Josh Burgess, Treasurer Laykelm Adams, and Secretary Danielle Gehring. The purpose of the Pep Club is to support and promote all sports teams at Upperman High School. Pep Club activities are to attend all sports games at Upperman High School as well as provide some money for teams when funds are low. The service projects support the community in with donations.
